Thank you to everyone who cast their vote to send one of our three finalists to the Emerging Leaders Contest. Congratulations to Healther Fate from TAPCO Credit Union for winning the Emerging Leaders Contest.
Heather Fate is the Compliance Specialist at TAPCO Credit Union. She has been with TAPCO for over seven years. She earned her BA in business administration from Gonzaga University and has earned compliance certifications through both CUNA and NAFCU (CUCE & NCCO respectively). Heather is currently serving her seventh term on the board of the Pierce County Chapter of Credit Unions. She was awarded the 2012 Credit Union Professional of the Year by the PCCCU.
I have been with TAPCO Credit Union for over seven years, starting as a Teller, progressing to a Member Service Lender. Four years ago, I moved into the newly-created position of Compliance Specialist. This position has been a great fit. I enjoy the challenge of following regulatory changes and the opportunity for continued learning. In addition, I have been participating with the Pierce County Chapter of Credit Unions (PCCCU) since the beginning of my career with TAPCO. I have been a part of the board for almost seven years. This involvement has allowed for networking, community involvement, and educational opportunities. As a compliance professional, I place immense value in learning. I have earned and maintained compliance certifications through both CUNA and NAFCU. I regularly attend the NWCUA’s Compliance Networking Council meetings. I was also awarded the 2012 Professional of the Year by the PCCCU. As a department of one, I am grateful for the support and cooperation my credit union has afforded me. The skills I will acquire through the Emerging Leaders Program will allow for me to not only improve my own performance, but the performance of the credit union as a whole. This program embodies two important values as I work to better improve myself as a person and a professional. This training will be an excellent learning opportunity but also an invaluable chance to network with other emerging leaders in the credit union industry. Through this program, I would like to enhance my communication skills and elevate my decision-making abilities. I anticipate that the program will facilitate one of my major goals – ongoing professional development.
