Foundation Unveils New Brand, Seats New Board During Convention

The Northwest Credit Union Foundation, formed on Jan. 1 through the merger of the Oregon and Washington Foundations, seated its board of directors Tuesday and unveiled its new brand Wednesday.

NWCUF - Kyle and CarleneThe Northwest Credit Union Foundation (NWCUF), formed on Jan. 1 through the merger of the Oregon and Washington Foundations, seated its board of directors Tuesday and unveiled its new brand Wednesday during the Northwest Credit Union Association’s (NWCUA’s) 2012 Convention.

The Foundation board members were elected in September as a consolidation of the merged boards, with NWCUA President and CEO Troy Stang joining eight credit union professionals who now each represent one of the NWCUA’s geographic districts. Five of the eight incoming trustees were elected unopposed.

The next step in the Foundation’s governance process is to expand the board to 17 members by adding three trustees representing credit unions by asset size and five additional at-large trustees through a formal nomination and appointment process. A transitional executive committee was also seated at Tuesday’s Foundation meeting to serve through Dec. 31, 2012.

Horizon Credit Union’s Steve Wilder will act as board chair, Mid Oregon Credit Union’s Kyle Frick was chosen as vice chair, Fibre Federal Credit Union’s Lesley Carrell will serve as secretary, and IBEW & United Workers Federal Credit Union’s Barbara Mathey will act as treasurer until a permanent executive committee is chosen next year.

Carrell and Frick unveiled the new Foundation brand to supporters at a breakfast event Wednesday morning. Both emphasized the fact that the process was not one of re-branding but of creating an entirely new visual representation of the ambitious new vision of the merged Foundation. Frick and Carrell were part of a committee that worked with Weber Marketing to develop a new logo and a new look for what is now one of the largest credit union foundations in the nation.

“The new brand represents nearly a year of hard work and planning,” said Foundation Development Associate Josalyn Alston. “Our trustees really believe in our new mission. Their intent was to cultivate, innovate, and motivate our credit union community, and I think the brand we’ve created is a great reflection of our legacy and our vision for the future of credit unions and their communities.”

Carrell and Frick also revealed the newly defined Foundation mission statement: “Cultivating opportunities and developing leaders that improve the well-being of our communities.”
