North Coast CU Gets National Exposure for "Pennies from Heaven" Deposit

If you read, saw or listened to one of more than 100 media outlets across North America last week, it is likely that you also saw or heard about a Washington credit union that is helping a Mt. Vernon man attempt raising $1 million in pennies for the "Mountain of Hope" fund for needy families.

The heart of the story was about North Coast Credit Union of Bellingham Washington accepting a wheelbarrow full of pennies as an installment on that $1 million from Mt. Vernon resident Rand O'Donnell, who has so far raised more than $4,000, all in pennies.

According to the piece, O'Donnell hopes the fund will generate enough interest income to provide a steady source of revenue for the Skagit County Community Action Agency, which helps families with emergency food, fuel and clothing.
