Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) and credit unions in the Northwest and around the nation are celebrating a milestone in their partnership with the announcement that the not-for-profit financial services community has raised $100 million for the children’s care network’s 170 facilities.
Credit Unions for Kids, the collaborative effort responsible for rallying the credit union movement and raising the $100 million, is the “charity of choice” in the credit union movement and is the third largest sponsor of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH).
“It is so exciting to know that Credit Union’s here in the Northwest, through Credit Unions for Kids, has assisted in raising $100 million in funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals,” said Lisa Deck, vice president of American Lake Credit Union and a Credit Unions for Kids ambassador in Washington. “I am so excited to be involved in the new Ambassador Advisory Group and to work in partnership with other area credit unions, Seattle Children’s Hospital and the NWCUA. Working with Seattle Children’s Hospital can’t help but touch your heart, and I feel it is an honor.”
Credit unions in Oregon and Washington have raised funds for six hospitals serving four regions in Washington and Oregon through consistent collaborative fundraising efforts since the Credit Unions for Kids national partnership began in 1996, including:
- CMN Hospitals of the Inland Northwest
- Doernbecher Children’s Hospital
- Rogue Valley Medical Center
- Sacred Heart Medical Center - Eugene, OR
- Seattle Children’s Hospital
- Yakima Valley memorial Hospital
Portland’s Doernbecher Children’s Hospital was the second largest recipient of Credit Unions for Kids funds raised in 2011. The renowned hospital was also the focal point when a small group of Portland and Southwest Washington credit unions created “Credit Unions for Kids” in 1986. The goal was to improve healthcare for young patients at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. It worked—so well that The Credit Unions for Kids effort was copied nationally a decade later.
“2011 was a landmark year for our credit union partners,” said John Lauck, president and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “Their performance speaks volumes about the character of those in the movement. Given the unprecedented challenges facing the industry, credit unions could have cut back on their fundraising, but instead they pushed forward to raise $100 million. We congratulate Credit Unions for Kids on this achievement and thank them for enabling our hospitals to impact the lives of more kids and their families.”
In 2012, participating credit unions have three national campaigns supporting local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The Change A Child’s Life coin collection campaign concluded April 30. Miracle Jeans Day fundraising will occur Aug. 1–Sept. 12, and the Holiday Icon Campaign will run Nov. 1–Dec. 31.
