Drawing 15 candidates for its annual legislative dinner, the Southwest Chapter of Credit Unions continued its highly successful annual event Monday night, kicking off a week of events surrounding the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA) Convention and Annual Business Meeting.
Local CEOs Roger Michaelis (iQ Credit Union), Larry Hoff (Fibre Federal Credit Union), Steve Kenny (Columbia Credit Union), Ed Seidenberg (People’s Community Credit Union), and David Spaulding (Red Canoe Credit Union), along with Bill Fulk (Columbia Credit Union) and Eric Petracca (Lacamas Community Credit Union), helped educate candidates about issues facing credit unions, while candidates were each given an opportunity to address the crowd.
“The way the Southwest Chapter runs their annual event is phenomenal,” said NWCUA Vice President of Legislative Affairs Mark Minickiello. “Credit unions get to hear from a wide variety of candidates, while the candidates get to hear from a wide variety of credit unions serving their constituents—hearing directly from the CEOs. It’s really the best of both worlds.”
The format of the annual event is structured so that a CEO presents an issue facing credit unions, and then introduces a candidate, followed by another CEO presenting another issue and then introducing another candidate, and so on.
Candidates attending were Don Benton (17th District Senate), Sharon Wylie (49th District House), Jim Moeller (49th District House), Annette Cleveland (49th District Senate), Kim Wyman (Secretary of State), Ann Rivers (18th District Senate), Paul Harris (17th District House), Ralph Schmidt (18th District Senate), Eileen Qutub (49th District Senate), Liz Pike (18th District House), Julie Olson (17th District House), Debbie Peterson (49th District House), David Shehorn (18th District House), Carolyn Crain (49th District House), and Brandon Vick (18th District House).
