Leadership Orientation – Leveraging Your Association
Whether you’re a new CEO, recently promoted senior-level manager or an experienced leader wanting to refresh your relationships with peers, the Leadership Orientation is a great opportunity for you to share challenges and establish lifelong career connections.   NWCUA personnel will  meet with you face to face, to better understand your concerns and the issues you have leading your credit union.  Hear about the benefits and advantages that come with your association membership. You are welcome to bring an additional member of your management team or board with you. This is an excellent opportunity to sit down face to face, learn from engaged peers and discuss the variety of services the NWCUA staff provides to your credit union.

Lunch will be provided.

Asset Size Roundtables
Make Your Credit Union Stronger with the Help of Your Peers
Running a credit union has never been tougher.  You need all the insight, experience and ideas you can get.  No one knows your business and your job like another similar sized credit union.
Sit down in small groups with leaders of credit unions with similar asset sizes. Network. Engage in an interactive session that will explore your challenges and share solutions.  Discuss regulations, legislative initiatives and business trends affecting your credit union.

Welcome Reception
Following the Asset Size Roundtable you are invited to the Welcome Reception, co-hosted by the Northwest Credit Union Association and CUNA Mutual Group.

James Wilcox, J. J. and M. B. Lowrey Professor of Financial Institutions, Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley

As credit union leaders, you use the outlook for the economy to improve your strategic plans, investment policies and asset-liability management. Jim Wilcox will discuss with you his data and perspective on where the economy is now and where it’s likely headed. This session will address interest and unemployment rates and debts and deficits. The session will also illustrate how the economy affects Presidential elections and show how financial markets are sizing up the November elections.

Credit Union Supplemental Capital: Why and How
James Wilcox, J. J. and M. B. Lowrey Professor of Financial Institutions, Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley

Dr. Wilcox makes the case for expanded and carefully regulated capital authority for credit unions. Jim has documented that Congress has historically granted flexibility to banking regulators. With greater flexibility to regulate capital, the NCUA could enable credit unions to better serve as safe harbors for depositors, improve safety and soundness, and increase lending, thereby helping credit unions and their members, as well as boosting the economic recovery.

Afternoon Sessions

Innovation in Tomorrow’s Financial Services Marketplace
Salim Ismail, Global Ambassador, Singularity University

Ismail wowed NWCUA Convention attendees in 2011 and will take that dialogue to the next level at the Executive Summit. What technologies are in the lab today that could be commercialized tomorrow to help credit unions survive and thrive? Singularity University serves as a think tank for the world’s best and brightest executives, as well as for the most advanced thinking young leaders of tomorrow. Ismail will share the latest information about their exponentially expanding technologies and the possible benefits to credit unions.
