The NWCUA and the OR/WA Northwest Council of CUES are teaming up to present a Leadership Symposium to credit union leaders. This is an excellent opportunity for credit union leaders to network and exchange ideas with peers, interact with government officials, and have an open dialogue with Association staff.
Stick around overnight and enjoy the NCUA Workshop & NWCUA Small Credit Union Roundtable on April 25. The NCUA Workshop is open to credit unions of all sizes, and then afternoon breakout sessions will provide relevant information to small credit unions.
What's a Leadership Symposium?
Two of the Northwest Credit Union Association's top strategic objectives include: working to improve and evolve the charter and lessen the regulatory burden on credit unions, and fostering unity among credit unions throughout the Northwest. The Leadership Symposium is a trio of meetings creating:
- An opportunity to interact with government officials such as top regulators and legislative leadership;
- An environment designed to foster communication between the Association and members; and
- Perhaps most importantly, an forum for networking and idea exchange between credit unions.
Who should attend?
The Leadership Symposium is open to all member CEOs. We encourage you to bring your leadership team with you.

About the Speakers
Jeffrey Bell

Shannon Berg
Principal & Director of Marketing, Gallatin Public Affairs
When the stakes are high or the crisis is still unfolding, Shannon Berg is used to being on the front lines of public communication. For 15 years, Shannon has put her crisis communication – and planning – skills to work. Prior to joining Gallatin, she served as the Press Secretary for the Mayor of Detroit as well as the communications director for the city. Based in the firm’s Portland office, she also serves as the firm’s Director of Marketing.
Denise Gabel
Chief Operating Officer, Northwest Credit Union Association
Denise Gabel is the Chief Operating Officer at the Northwest Credit Union Association. She is responsible for overseeing the critical services provided for nearly 200 credit unions in the region. This includes compliance services, training and development, public relations and communications, and the Northwest Credit Union Foundation. She also provides direction to Strategic Link, the service corporation which leverages cooperative intelligence and provides credit unions with efficient products and services through preferred business solutions. Another priority for Gabel is working with all credit unions to ensure collaborative engagement and participation.
Paul Gentile
EVP Strategic Communications & Engagement, CUNA
Paul Gentile is bringing his previous experience and insights as the former President/CEO of the New Jersey Credit Union League and now sharing it nationally at his new role at CUNA.
During his time at NJCUL, Paul Gentile oversaw the “Banking You Can Trust” campaign, which is one of the most successful awareness campaigns in the country.
Pamela Leavitt
Policy Advisor, Northwest Credit Union Association
Pamela Leavitt is the Oregon State advocacy and grassroots policy advisor for the Northwest Credit Union Association. Leavitt contributes to the coordination of the Association’s governmental affairs activities in the Oregon Legislature, with emphasis on establishing effective credit union participation in the legislative and political process. She helps manage the legislative agenda and works with legislators on the over two hundred bills introduced each legislative session impacting credit unions.
Paul is a passionate advocate for educating consumers on the benefits of credit unions in a clear jargon free way.
Mark Minickiello
Vice President, Legislative Affairs, Northwest Credit Union Association
Mark Minickiello is vice president of legislative affairs for the Northwest Credit Union Association. He is responsible for the Association’s legislative affairs program in Washington State. He oversees political advocacy on behalf of Washington State’s credit unions, at both the state and federal levels. Minickiello serves as treasurer for the NWCUA’s Washington State CULAF and works to meet CULAC goals for the state.
Jennifer Wagner
Vice President, Legislative Advocacy, Northwest Credit Union Association
Jennifer Wagner is the vice president of legislative advocacy for the Northwest Credit Union Association. She leads the Association’s federal governmental affairs priorities, working closely with the NW congressional delegation in Washington, D.C. as well as in our region. Wagner oversees the Association’s grassroots advocacy programs and initiatives to raise political action funds to support candidates who promote credit union movement legislation.
